Movies and TV Shows to Binge.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has been a go-to lately for re-watching old series like Community and Parks & Rec. But don’t discount their originals (series and movies) and acquired hit favourites that they continue to roll out.

1. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
It’s Jim from the Office. But now he has a gun and is fighting terrorism as a US Marine in the Amazon. The series is a returning thriller that’s action-packed and has been nominated for numerous awards. With its 2nd season finished airing, and its green light for a 3rd, you can be comforted knowing there’ll be more to come once you’re done bingeing.

2. All the John Wick Films
Maybe not for everyone, but I know more than a few die hard fans for Keanu Reeves in his role as hitman John Wick (including our very own site developer). If you would do anything to avenge your family and/or dog, these are the movies for you. Enjoy the most extra fight scenes and Keanu just being the legend that he is.

3. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
A late 50’s story of a housewife turned stand-up comic and her rise to fame through performing in neighbourhood cafes and nightclubs. Winner of multiple Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy, this period piece will have you laughing and wanting more.

4. Whiplash
If you haven’t watched it, you should. And if you have watched it, watch it again. With committed performances by Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons, its no wonder it has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Though its projection of student-mentor relationships is a bit of a controversial issue, we’ll leave it up to you to decide what to think.

5. Community & Parks and Recreation
I already mentioned these titles in the introduction, but hey, they are GREAT for passing time. Community and Parks & Rec have become comedy classics to binge through and are actually run-ups for some of your favourite actors and comedians. Names like Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Joel McHale, and our personal favourite: Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) all gained further popularity from these shows.

Look through more titles on the Prime Video site or app.

Netflix

With the introduction of Netflix Party, Netflix has made it easier than ever to binge shows and movies with friends. Trying to give love to all genres, here’s some popular series as deemed by Netflix and us.

1. Love Is Blind
If you’re craving some reality TV that’s questionable at times, look no further! Love Is Blind is a social experiment where couples ‘get to know’ each other and are engaged without ever seeing their spouse-to-be. This show follows the journeys of these couples from engagement to the wedding, or disaster, that follows.

2. Sex Education
Looking to reminisce on the awkward period of time that was high school? Sex Education is a quirky British TV drama following Otis, a high school boy who, through the advice of his friends, opens up an secretive sex therapy clinic at his school.

3. Elite
A Spanish thriller-drama that begins with a class struggle, but quickly escalates to something more. Already on its 3rd season, you can be sure there’s enough to binge over the next few days.

4. Itaewon Class
The hype surrounding this Korean drama is UNREAL. Whether you’ve been into K-dramas for a while or if you’re just looking to get started, this series is like a breath of fresh air from all the rom-coms around (though there still might be some romance in there). Follow along with a youthful crew who try to take their bar-restaurant business to greater heights!

5. Castlevania
If you’re looking to try out a new animated series, this might be for you…Inspired by the countless video games, this series follows the war between humankind and a hate-consumed Dracula (which tends to happen when you kill someone’s wife). The witty script and phenomenal voice acting will keep you hooked through all 3 seasons.

All these and many more titles on the Netflix site or app.

Disney +

With its recent launch in November of 2019, Disney + quickly became one of the fastest growing video streaming subscriptions to exist. It is home to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, and with big names like these, you can be sure there is a plethora of childhood favourites to choose from.

Everyone has their own Disney favourite and we aren’t here to convince you to change yours. Instead we’ll be outlining some re-watchable content that the contributors personally find amusing.

1. All the Marvel Movies (?)
Okay, so they’re a bit basic and there are a lot of them. But if you want to give it a try, we recommend watching every movie in chronological order as detailed here. Since the release dates for these movies are so far apart, it sometimes gets hard to see the links in the MCU timeline. And with so many spin-off series in the works (like Loki and WandaVision), there is all the more reason to be caught up in the MCU.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Because we all need some Jack Skellington trying to spread joy in our lives. Never sure if this is a Christmas or Halloween movie, but now its a quarantine-time movie. A Tim Burton stop-motion CLASSIC with an iconic and timeless soundtrack, everyone needs to re-visit this movie.

3. Recess (The 1997 Series)
The Disney channel has its TV classics for every generation but if there was one show to come home to and watch almost everyday, it was Recess. A fun cast of characters and their shenanigans at Third Street Elementary School will send you into a black hole of nostalgia and laughs.

4. Muppet Treasure Island
There’s gotta be something better than this for me". Except there isn’t. This will probably be one of the most controversial highlights on the list but even on the 20th viewing, I still find myself entertained. Sing along with the muppets as they sail across the big blue wet thing (ocean) on their adventure to find buried treasure.

5. Big Hero 6 & Its spin-off series
Capturing the essence of youth and bonds, Big Hero 6 had some of us emotionally distraught at times. Follow Hiro, Baymax, and friends, in their techy sci-fi adventures to save San Fransokyo from all kinds of perils.

Check them out on the Disney + site or on their app.
